(1)利用河流、海洋沉积记录示踪近现代时间尺度的地表风化侵蚀、陆-海相互作用及沉积源-汇过程;

(2)利用盆地沉积记录研究地质时间尺度的沉积源-汇过程及构造-气候-沉积耦合关系;

(3)沉积地质学研究方法的评估及新方法的探索与开发(重点关注碎屑物源分析、风化过程示踪、沉积古环境及古气候重建等方面);

Sedimentary Geology Group at Xiamen University

The Sedimentary Geology Group at Xiamen University is led by Dr. Xing Jian and includes several graduate students and undergraduate trainees. The group mainly uses sedimentological, mineralogical, petrological and geochemical techniques to understand sediment-related surficial processes over modern and geologic time-scales and to provide support for petroleum industry.

They focus on sediments and sedimentary rocks spaning multiple spatial and temporal scales, i.e., single grain-scale to basin-scale and from geologic time to human time. Current research interests include, 1) understanding continental weathering and erosion, land-ocean interplays and the sediment source-to-sink processes from modern sedimentary record; 2) investigating how tectonics and climate control sedimentary environments, the formation of sediments and basin evolution from deep-time records; 3) exploring new proxies for sediment provenance analysis, chemical weathering evaluation and paleoclimatic reconstruction; 4) providing technical service for petroleum industry and for environmental protection. Their study areas include oceanic and continental sedimentary basins in the Tibetan plateau and typical river-sea systems in East Asia.

The research group constantly looks for qualified post-docs, graduate students, undergraduate students and often welcomes short-term visitors. If interested, please feel free to contact Dr. Xing Jian at xjian@xmu.edu.cn.
