Aerosol Chemistry Group

Our group is focusing on the understanding of the chemistry and physics of aerosol particles from marine and anthropogenic sources and their climatic impacts. Recent works include physicochemical characterization of particles, ice nucleation ability of atmospheric particles, reactivity of aerosol particles, single particle analysis, marine particle emission, cloud microphysics, and instrumental developments.

We are looking for undergraduate, graduate students, and postdoctoral associates who are interested in the lab or field works in the areas listed above. We currently have several research positions for graduate students and postdocs on the projects including but not limited to: 1. ice formation on particles; 2. physical and chemical characterization of atmospheric aerosol particles; 3. instrumental developments for single particle analysis; 4. particle emission from marine sources; 5. Cloud microphysics (measurement and modeling). Please contact us if you are interest in our work or joining our group.

博士后招聘

厦门大学近海海洋环境科学国家重点实验室(MEL),海洋与地球学院气溶胶化学课题组因科研工作需要拟招聘博士后若干名。课题组主要从事气溶胶和微观云物理化学研究。现诚邀优秀青年学者加入。

一、研究方向(项目)
(1) 气溶胶单颗粒分析/仪器研发;  (2) 大气冰核及云雾物理化学; (3) 海洋源气溶胶/海洋微表层; (4) 大气化学/气溶胶质谱仪。
 

二、招聘条件
1.大气科学,分析化学,物理化学,海洋化学,环境科学等相关方向已经或即将获得博士学位。
2.有良好的科研背景和能力(包括独立科研工作能力与良好的科技英文读写能力;较强的动手能力;具有优秀的论文发表记录等)。
3.有气溶胶研究和仪器研发经历可优先考虑。
4.进站后全职从事博士后研究;符合厦门大学博士后其他要求。

三、待遇情况及工作方式
主要按照厦门大学博士后管理办法提供待遇及政策支持:
1.工资福利待遇按厦门大学博士后有关规定执行;优秀申请者可推荐申请MEL杰出博士后基金(具体待遇要求请见杰出博士后基金网站)。
2.学校提供博士后公寓或租房补贴;
3.博士后子女按学校教职工子女同等待遇办理入园、入学;
4.博士后在站期间,根据学术表现情况可给予助理研究员、副研究员、研究员头衔。

Our coauthored review paper entitled "The Role of Organic Aerosol in Atmospheric Ice Nucleation: A Review" was published in ACS Earth and Space Chemistry.
 
Predicting the formation of ice in the atmosphere presents one of the great challenges in physical sciences with important implications for the chemistry and composition of the Earth’s atmosphere, the hydrological cycle, and climate.
 
This review focuses on the role of organic matters or organic aerosols acting as ice nucleating particles in ice nucleation processes in the atmosphere, summarizing and highlighting recent advances in our understanding of the ice nucleation process gained from theoretical, laboratory, and field studies.

Update:

Our paper entitled "Direct Observation of Ice Nucleation Events on Individual Atmospheric Particles" was accepted by Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics and was online on Sept. 14. Now it is in final form and is featured in back cover.

To the best of our knowledge, our study presents first time visualization of individual ice nucleation events at the nanometer scale on the micrometer size atmospheric particles. The study also demonstrates the unique capability of the IN-ESEM platform for investigations with precise control of temperatures and RH, critical to study low temperature ice formation processes relevant to atmospheric science, cryobiology, and material science.

Our user proposal has been approved by EMSL, an US DOE user facility located at PNNL in Richland, WA . This allows us to use a set of comprehensive analytical instruments for particle analysis for the next 2 years, possible extended to a third year.
