Abstract: This study combined osmotic pump (OP) with solid phase extraction (SPE) to build a power-supply free active sampler for long-term monitoring of time-weighted average concentration (CTWA) of pollutants in water. When the sampler is deployed, the OP will draw the water sample continously through the SPE cartridge at a constant flow rate, and the pollutants in the water is trapped; meanwhile, the solution from the outlet of the OP is collected in a bag. After the sampler is retrieved, the amount of pollutants trapped on SPE cartridge is determined by GC-MS and the volume of the solution in the bag, which is almost the same as the volume of the water sample collected by the sampler, is measured. Finally, the pollutants amount and the sample volume are used to calculate CTWAs.
