The planetary boundaries concept has been expanded revised and expanded. Commentaries have urged that the human dimension should also be included. This is particularly relevant for coastal zones, where 50% of the population live on 10% of the land. Future Earth Coasts is developing a "Coastal Boundaries" concept, with the aim of finding and exploring pathways back towards our central, coastal aspirations to provide solution to complex coastal issues.
