Mangrove wetland could be sink or source of nutrient pollution in coastal area. Lateral nutrient exchange between mangrove and estuary are poorly understood. We carried out a 48-h hourly observation in a tidal creek of mangrove in Zhangjiang estuary to investigate the nutrient dynamic over tidal cycle. Surface water were sampled and analyzed for suspended particles, nutrient forms and dissolved gas (N2, N2O, CH4, CO2). Based on time-series analysis and isotope values, we preliminary observed the complicated nutrient behavior. Nutrient (particular ammonium) addition was obvious in later ebb tide and early flood tide, indicating the source of mangrove and tidal flat. Inorganic nutrient were general conservative mixing during high tide and early ebb tide. Current results showed that the lateral exchange are highly dynamic as a combined result of nutrient biogeochemistry and hydrology. This study implied that physical process and biogeochemistry should be coupled toward understanding the role of mangrove-estuary system in blue carbon.
