Due to the disorder development and utilization, the area of mangroves in China has been reduced by 73%. There are three main stages of the decline: marine reclamation in 1960s, foreshore reclamation and aquaculture from 1970s to 1980s, and urbanization from 1990s until now. Nowadays, with the development of social economy and the changes of environment, mangroves still face many challenges. In addition to the contribution of related governmental departments to mangrove conservation, NGOs play an vital role that cannot to be ignored. As a NGO, China Mangrove Conservation Network(CMCN for short) hammers at mangrove conservation. Founded in 2001, CMCN dedicates to establish a platform with integrative and open resources, and combine with the governments, corporations and other civic powers to promote the prosperity of Chinese coastal wetlands, especially mangrove ecosystems. CMCN has focused on mangrove conservation for many years and has carried out more than twenty subprojects including Mangrove Eco-restoration, Mangrove Pre-Alert Mechanism, Mangrove Reserve Personnel Training, Public Magic Cube, and so on. We have organized or participated in mangrove eco-restoration for over 150 times, planting over one million mangrove seedlings, with more than 5500 people involved. Our 11 voluntary teams and 12 individual volunteers have patrolled in nationwide mangrove forests for over 480 times and found over 200 mangrove destructive events. We have funded at least 50 teams to implement many local public education activities, influencing more than 250,000 audiences. These work contributes a lot to mangrove conservation.
