To promote quality education of pupils, we have established several outreach programmes and teams at Tongji Primary School. We are the primary school affiliated to Tongji University, so we take this advantage to set up our outreach themes in accordance with the predominant subjects at the university. Marine science and technology department has a highest reputation in China, even in the world, and pupils like marine organisms, beach and waves by nature. Therefore, we set up an outreach team to explore marine science and technology through a close cooperation with the school of Ocean and Earth Science at Tongji University. The outreach programme on the marine science education has been initiated 10 years before. A volunteer team has been set up to include an academician (Prof. Pinxian Wang), several professors, undergraduate and graduate students. Outreach programme package includes: (1) Academician pilot education ceremony, (2) interesting classes by professors, (3) exploring the Deep-Sea Exploratorium, (4) field campaigns to explore marine dynamics and coastal organisms, (5) field campaigns at coastal wetland park to understand the importance of biodiversity and environmental issues, (6) joint advertising campaigns on the World Ocean Day, (7) visiting the Marine-Geology State Key Laboratory at the open-day festivals, (8) knowledge contest on the marine science and technology. Shanghai is one of important hubs for marine science research and technological application in China. To expand our visions, the marine outreach programme also includes other activities by regular visiting the following research/education units or museums. For example, Shanghai Ocean University is another important supporting partner who own Rainbow fish manned submersible at the Hadal Science and Technology Research Center, and China Ichthyic Culture Museum. Pupils can learn fish species and fishing technology from these visits. Shanghai Naval Museum and China Maritime Museum are also included in our visiting lists to explore ship-manufacture and navigation-development history. Polar Science Museum is another good choice to educate pupils the importance of polar environment, and so on. After a decadal practice, museum exploration and scientific outreach have become an important part of our curriculum plan. We selected some typical successful outreach activity cases from the marine-science and other outreach programmes, and compiled them into a textbook that has been published by Tongji University Press in 2015.
