The evolution of estuary deltas have always been a hot subject to study on. In China, the Yangtze River is the longest and largest river, which makes the evolution of Yangtze River delta since Holocene a significant project. In our program, we used the method-numerical simulation to try to first simulate the evolution of ideal estuary. Several simplified hydrodynamic models of ideal situations were developed using Delft3D-FLOW. In those ideal models time scale was set to 100a, in which initial terrains, tides combinations, river discharges, sediment fractions are main controlling factors. They were set different in different cases. In straight estuary cases, we found that when there was only M2 tidal constituent, erosion in the river channel had a positive correlation with river discharges. This was attributed to the backwater effect of tide. However, there remains a lot to be done before we finally simulate Yangtze River delta, which is our future target. |
