Taxis
Taxis can be hailed down with ease, except for the rush hour 17:00 to 18:00. The taxi fare charge in Xiamen is 8 RMB for the first 3 km and 2 RMB per km thereafter. There is a one-RMB fuel surcharge for each ride. Fares are subject to a 50% surcharge when the journey exceeds 8 km; during the time 11 pm to 5 am, fares are subject to a 20% surcharge.
Alternatively, GPRS Call Centre (Tel: 5320000) offers a telephone service to book a taxi at your request. The company is non-English speaking so you may need to ask your doorman to call for you.
Public Buses
Several public transport routes are available within the city. A fare of 1 RMB must be entered into a box on entry, therefore, change is required. For some buses equipped with air conditions, 2 RMB is charged.
