About SOLAS
The International SOLAS (Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study) Project is an international research initiative comprising of over 1600 scientists in 75 countries.
The SOLAS International Project Office (IPO) is based in Kiel in Germany with a further nodal office in Norwich, UK. The IPO coordinates and communicates with research teams all over the world.
The projects primary objective is: "To achieve quantitative understanding of the key biogeochemical-physical interactions and feedbacks between the ocean and atmosphere, and of how this coupled system affects and is affected by climate and environmental change."
Our foci:
-Focus 1: Biogeochemical Interaction and Feedbacks between Ocean and Atmosphere
-Focus 2: Exchange Processes at the Air-Sea Interface and Role of Transport and Transformation of Atmospheric and Oceanic Boundary Layers
-Focus 3: Air-Sea Fluxes of CO2 and Other Long-Lived Radiatively-Active Gases- Joint SOLAS IMBER Carbon Group
