Instructions on your arrival
How to get to the Xiamen University Student Apartment and Zeng Cheng Kui Building?
Please refer to ‘Transportation’ page.
Accommodation:
All participants are accommodated in the Xiamen University Student Apartment Area in Zeng Cuo An (曾厝垵厦门大学学生公寓). Female participants will stay in #6 Haiyun Building (海韵6), and male participants stay in #2 Haiyun Building (海韵2). Three or four participants share one room.
When you arrive at the student apartment on June 30 or July 1, please go to Student Apartment Management Office in Room 113 of No. 5 Haiyun Building (海韵5号楼-113,海韵物业办), to get the key to your room.
Working hours of the office: 8:00-11:30, 14:30-17:30. For arrival beyond working hours, please contact Ms. Vera Shi (13950003935, vera_shiwei@xmu.edu.cn) or Miss Carrie Lee (13859925112, carrie_lee@xmu.edu.cn) for help.
Room facility:
All rooms are equipped with air-conditions, and bathrooms. There is no internet access in the apartment. Bedding facilities such as sheets, mosquito nets, and pillow, etc. are provided by the local organizing committee, and participants need to bring their own toiletry stuff.
Registration:
¨ For participants arrive earlier, please come to the B-205 of Zeng Cheng Kui Building (曾呈奎楼) for early registration.
¨ Registration desks are on the first floor of Ocean-B Building on July 1, 2009, open at 15:30 and close at 20:00.
¨ You will receive your e-card, name badge and handbook. Please wear your badge at all times.
¨ For ticket reimbursements, please hand in your tickets to the registration desk, and claim for reimbursement upon your completion of the course.
¨ An orientation talk and tour will be organized at 16:30, at B-206 of Zeng Cheng Kui Building and then the MEL labs.
¨ A welcome party will be organized afterward at 18:30.
Poster display:
For participants who are giving poster presentations, please find your poster number and displaying guide at the poster help desk. You will be able to put your poster up for display during the whole duration of the course.
Poster boards are 50 cm (width) and 70 cm (length), and posters should fit to these sizes.
Adhesive tapes and scissors are available at the poster help desk. If you have special needs for your poster presentation, please bring those supplies with you to Xiamen.
PowerPoint files uploading:
Participants who are giving oral presentations are supposed to upload your PowerPoint file to the symposium computer by July 4. Note that we handle with Microsoft Office.
Student award:
In order to encourage excellence, the organizing committee is offering prizes for the top student poster and presentation. Students are not automatically entered into the competition. If you wish to be part of it, mention this to the registration desk.
The competition chairs will convene a panel of judges to identify the top poster/presentation based on research quality and presentation. Prizes will be awarded at the closing ceremony on July 15.
Reimbursement of expenses
Accommodation:
Accommodation fee has been paid by the local organizing committee
Meal and local transportation:
¨ 200 RMB has been put into students’ e-card, which is NOT refundable
¨ 150 RMB will be paid to students in cash for extra meal and local transportation allowance, including local bus and a ferry fare to Piano Island
Travel (For participants whose travel expenses will be provided by local organizing committee)
¨ Expenses will be reimbursed upon completion of the course.
¨ Reimbursement is in RMB.
¨ Originals or legible photocopies of transport tickets / original receipts must be provided upon on-site registration. They must clearly indicate the amount paid and the full itinerary (showing departure/arrival dates and times).
¨ Participants must declare that he/she has not received any similar reimbursement or allowance or is not entitled to a similar reimbursement or allowance from another institute, organization for the same trip.
Students who travel by train (hard-seat) or bus
¨ Train/bus tickets should be provided
¨ Students will be fully reimbursed
Students who travel by air instead of train or long distance bus
¨ Air tickets or train sleeper tickets should be provided
¨ Students will be reimbursed with the price of hard-seat train tickets between their cities and Xiamen, necessary transits will be considered

E-card:
For all funded participants, a 200CNY-deposited e-card will be given to you upon registration. The E-card can be used on campus for shopping in the supermarket, dining in the cafeteria, entering the apartment building, library and swimming pool, etc. Note that the money is NOT refundable.
Meal:
¨ On campus: there are several cafeterias on the campus Qinye Canteen (勤业餐厅), Furong Cafeteria (芙蓉餐厅), Dongyuan Cafeteria (东苑餐厅), Nanguang Cafeteria (南光餐厅) and Cai Qingjie Oversea Student Cafeteria (蔡清洁海外留学生餐厅), etc.
¨ Around the student apartment: No. 1 Gongyu Cafeteria (公寓一期餐厅) and No. 2 Gongyu Cafeteria (公寓二期餐厅)
¨ Off campus: several restaurants can be found around Zeng Cheng Kui Building in the Da Xue Road or opposite to the West Gate
Internet:
¨ Zeng Cheng Kui Building: The Ocean-B Building is equipped with wireless internet access from the 2nd to the 6th floor. Tables and chairs are available at the corner of every floor. No password is needed for the internet access.
¨ Internet is not available in the apartments.
¨ University internet service center: reception desk, 5th floor, #5 Jiageng Building (嘉庚五号楼). Free computer and internet access is provided when you confirm that you are a participant of the course. Phone: 2183506

¨ Xiamen University Library: Participants with e-cards can enjoy the resources in the university library without borrowing them out of the library.

Swimming
Participants are not allowed to swim in the sea. To swim in the university Wang Qing Ming Swimming Pool (王清明游泳馆), you need to apply for a permit by getting your eye and feet checked in Xiamen University Hospital.
¨ Time to get physical examination: 2:30-5:10 pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday
¨ Things to bring with: A letter from organizing committee and one 1-inch photo
¨ Procedure: go to the Xiamen University Hospital, register for dermatology & Ophthalmology (pay 10 Yuan) – Get examination – go to the Bao Jian Ke (Preventive Medicine Office) on the 4th floor to get the certificate and pay another 3 Yuan.
Electricity

Insurance
No responsibility can be assured for any kind of personal accidents, sickness, theft, or property damage suffered by conference participants. Participants are advised to arrange whatever insurance they consider it necessary.
Weather
Xiamen is a subtropical coastal city. The temperature in July is between 25-35℃, with an average of 27.9℃. The averaged precipitation in July is about 187 mm. You are recommended to have summer dress and bring umbrella with you.
