近海海洋环境科学国家重点实验室（厦门大学）（简称MEL）于2009年设立访问学者基金，并将其与MEL开放课题基金结合执行，以便资深科学家前来实验室进行科研合作与指导，同时为青年学者到MEL开展科研培训提供平台和资助。基金支持学者来MEL工作1-6个月，以促进实质性科研合作的开展。
一、资助研究领域
研究领域须围绕MEL主攻方向，同时鼓励开展跨学科的交叉研究。主要包括：碳生物地球化学、氮生物地球化学、有机物和金属的生物地球化学、微型生物生态过程、浮游生物生态过程、海洋环境变化生理生态效应、海洋生态毒理效应、海洋动力过程与生态响应、海洋观测等。
二、基金类别及资助额度
1. 杰出访问学者（包括“郑重”杰出访问学者）：招募国内外杰出的专家学者，支持每年来厦开展科研合作1-6个月，提供学者1次国际、国内往返机票、工作津贴3万元/月（税前）以及相应住宿支持，提供必要的办公设备，并共享实验室仪器及其它资源。
2. 高级访问学者：招募国内外优秀的专家学者，支持每年来厦开展科研合作1-6个月，提供学者1次国际、国内往返机票、工作津贴2万元/月（税前）以及相应住宿支持，提供必要的办公设备，并共享实验室仪器及其它资源。
3. 青年访问学者：招募国内外高校优秀的博士毕业生或青年科学家，支持每年来厦开展合作科研1-6个月，提供学者1次国际、国内往返机票、工作津贴1万元/月（税前）以及相应住宿支持，并可根据实际情况提供最高2万元的科研配套。实验室将提供必要的办公设备，并共享实验室仪器及其它资源。此类资助与MEL开放课题结合共同执行。
三、申请程序
1. 查看MEL网页上《访问学者与开放课题基金申请指南》，常年接受申请。
2. 申请人必须联系、确定MEL相关研究方向的科研人员为项目合作者（注：所有资助均由MEL与申请人的合作者按照2：1的比例承担）。
3. 申请人在线填写申请表，填写内容包括：个人简历、工作计划及目标等。如申请青年访问学者基金的科研配套，还需制定详细经费预算。
4. MEL基金评审委员会每年3月15日、8月15日、11月15日对申请材料进行汇总和评审，并于1个月内公布评审结果并通知申请者。

MEL Visiting Fellowship Program Guide for Applicants
The State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (MEL) at Xiamen University launched a "Visiting Fellowship Program" for visiting scholars in marine sciences to conduct collaborative research with MEL members. Combined with the MEL Open Science Fund, the program offers visiting scholars financial support for 1-6 month stays in Xiamen.
1. Supported research fields:
The fellowship supports research in the general area of marine environmental science with emphasis on ocean carbon biogeochemistry, ocean nitrogen biogeochemistry, marine biogeochemistry of organic matter and metals, marine microbial ecology, ecological processes of plankton, ecological impacts of ocean acidification and UV radiation, ecotoxicological effects of marine pollutants, ocean dynamics and ecosystem response, ocean observation, and other disciplines related to the scientific questions with which MEL is concerned.
2. Fellowship types and support amount:
2.1 MEL Distinguished Visiting Fellowship. This Fellowship provides a monthly allowance of 30,000 Yuan (Before tax) for one to six months in a one-year period, round-trip international travel expenses (economy class), and accommodation or accommodation allowance. Laboratories, office facilities, communication networks, and other communal research facilities will be provided.
2.2 MEL Senior Visiting Fellowship. This Fellowship is supported by MEL with a monthly allowance of 20,000 Yuan (Before tax) for one to six months in a one-year period, round-trip international travel expenses (economy class), and accommodation or accommodation allowance. Laboratories, office facilities, communication networks, and other communal research facilities will be provided.
2.3 MEL Young Scientist Visiting Fellowship. This Fellowship is supported by MEL with a monthly allowance of 10,000 Yuan (Before tax) for one to six months in a one-year period, round-trip travel expenses (economy class), and accommodation or accommodation allowance. Laboratories, office facilities, communication networks, and other communal research facilities will be provided. Successful candidates are encouraged to apply for up to 20,000 Yuan in research funding from MEL.
3. How to apply?
3.1 Applications are accepted all year round.
3.2 The applicant must have a collaborative partner established at MEL prior to his/her application for the fellowship (＊All support will be covered as a ratio 2:1 by MEL and the MEL collaborative partner of the applicant).
3.3 Fill in the application form on-line(http://mel.xmu.edu.cn/supervisefile.asp?id=241). Applicants for the Young Scientist Visiting Fellowship can also apply for up to 20,000 Yuan in research funding. A detailed budget is required.
3.4 Application reviews will be organized every March 15, August 15 and November 15. The review outcome will be announced on the MEL website and applicants notified within a month.
