My research interests focus on the processes of Holocene environmental change and the role of past climate shifts in shaping the composition and distribution of terrestrial vegetation, using various geological archives. My research covers the fields of palaeoclimatology, palaeoecology, geochemistry, geography, and Quaternary geology. Combining these disciplines, I am trying to develop an improved understanding of the interactions between vegetation dynamics and global change, in the past, present and future.
There are currently three main themes that I am working on. (a) Spatio-temporal character of Holocene climate change and its external forcing in the East Asian monsoon area; (b) Response of vegetation dynamics to past climate change in East Asia since the Late Quaternary; (c) Triple oxygen isotopes of phytolith and its paleoclimate significance.
