题目:Elucidating boreal-forest responses to past climatic change: from DNA input to solar output

讲演学者:美国University of Illinois胡逢生教授

With a BS in Biology from Xiamen U (1983), a MSc. in Botany and Quaternary Studies from U of Maine (1990), and a PH.D. in Ecosystem Science from U of Washington (1994), Prof. Hu is a broadly trained ecologist working at the interfaces of biological, geological and climatological sciences. The overall objective of his research group is to understand patterns and mechanisms of long-term ecosystem dynamics under changing climatic conditions. They use “the natural experiments of the past” that are archived in geological deposits. These deposits offer a long-term holistic perspective into past environmental conditions, some of which do not exist today but may be analogs of different climatic conditions in the future. In pursuing their research interests, they have integrated traditional paleoecological techniques (e.g., pollen analysis) and state-of-the-art analytical tools (e.g., biomarker, stable-isotope, and chloroplast-DNA techniques). They have published many outstanding papers including those in Nature, Sciences, PNAS, Ecology, etc.
