近五年来，实验室重点建设了五个中心（海上调查技术中心、海洋仪器研发中心、海洋微型生物保种中心、海洋数据中心和质谱中心）和十四个功能实验室（碳分析、海洋微型生物生态、营养盐、光谱、色谱、海洋光生物学、分子生物学、生态毒理、海洋浮游植物、海洋生物影像、同位素、氮循环、海洋基因组学、环境基因组和生物信息学），以及多个现场观测平台（包括海洋酸化影响研究中水量试验平台、浮游植物生态走航系统、海气界面多参数实时监测浮标系统、近海海域生态动力浮标阵列，及东山海洋站等）。这些中心平台和功能实验室全面向科研人员提供开放服务，为各主攻方向的创新性研究提供技术支撑。

为了更好地发挥这些共用平台的作用，实验室于2008年6月成立了“大型仪器与技术服务中心”（简称COMET），全面规范化管理实验室安全、仪器设备以及技术人员培训和考核，通过网络形式建立资产数据库、预约共享、耗材管理和仪器维护系统，实现了分散设备的虚拟集中管理，提高了大型仪器开放共享率。

With strong support from both academic and technical staff, the Center of Major Equipment and Technology (COMET) was established in June 2008 for higher efficiency, lower running costs and better maintenance of MEL's large equipment. COMET has successfully established a framework with necessary infrastructure and operational protocols. The web-based equipment inventory, together with the maintenance and booking system, have fully demonstrated the openness, transparency, efficiency and professionalism that an advanced laboratory should effective infrastructure and state-of-the-art technological support to boost research excellence. COMET will continue to strive for excellence as an infrastructure for research and teaching and to inspire innovative research discoveries.
