此信息发布于:2016-11-23      浏览次数:2809

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES

The Marine disciplines in Xiamen University (XMU) enjoy a long and profound history. Concerning papers were published in the world's top scientific journals “Science” back to the early of 1920s. In 1946, China’s first Department of Oceanography was founded in XMU. In 1995, MEL (Lab of Marine Environmental and Ecological Sciences) was founded by the State Education Commission, which was then promoted to the “State Key Lab of Marine Environmental Science”, supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in 2005. In 1996, the College of Oceanography and Environmental Science was founded and then in 2011, the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences (COE) was established as part of XMU’s Faculty of Earth Science and Technology.

China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences is sponsored by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs with support from the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund. Located on Xiamen University Malaysia, the College embodies the spirit of Mr. Tan Kah Kee and aims to facilitate cooperative relationships between China and ASEAN countries through higher education. It strives to become an internationally influential center for marine education, personnel training, scientific and technological innovation, and cooperation. Furthermore, it aspires to make outstanding contributions to the nation’s strategy toward building a 21st century “Maritime Silk Road”.

With the establishment of China–ASEAN College of Marine Science, XMU seeks more cooperation in marine science education and research with ASEAN countries, and organized a visit to Indonesia in April 2014. This workshop is a follow-up of the visit aiming for more in-depth knowledge sharing and exchanges, and chart for future cooperation with colleagues from Indonesia.
